Summer doesn't have to be a countdown to school! (never posted!)

Image
**DISCLAIMER!** Sometimes I use the blogging app, and apparently this never posted:( Enjoy anyway, even though it mentions summer, it's still a great thought for every day with our children! I've been busy really enjoying my summer with the boys home. And I just finished reading my blog book! I've been trying to read a few books a week, but so far have been disappointed with every one I've gotten through. What are you reading right now? Back to our summer. When the boys were smaller, I have to admit, I was not a hands-on summer mom. I would do the daily routine and duties that were associated with having small people(fed them, took them to the park, play dates), but I never really jumped into the summer with them. A few years ago I learned the importance of being really present with them. Not on the phone, not texting or watching tv, just with them. I've learned to take them fishing, to the beach for the day, hiking, or just play board games with them. I kn...

Crayon therapy.

Image
When did you stop coloring? I know some of us have little ones running around, so we pick up a crayon here and there, but I mean REALLY coloring. Like outlining the pictures first, getting all those little details color-coordinated and ready for the grand prize coloring. Probably too long ago is your answer.  Coloring is a wonderful creative outlet for children. Inside/outside the lines, things can be whatever color they choose. But what about the part of it that is so mindless? No thinking required other than color choice. It's a great bonding time for parent/child, sitting and chatting while coloring, admiring each others pictures. All too often we are swiping tablets(or even coloring on them!), and missing out on some of the simple things with our children. Don't you remember opening the brand new box of 64 crayons and hoping they always stayed as sharp and lovely as they were in that moment? The other day I was waiting for some school stuff to print out, and ther...

My Favorite Auction Find...

Image
So, we went to this interesting auction over the weekend. Apparently it's held once a month, and it's 'silent'. No screaming and yipping bids, simply people with tiny mini golf pencils scrambling back and forth and grumbling about outbidding each other. Different. Strange. And awesome. We came home with some fun trinkets. A gumball machine, a drum set for my boy's birthday, some figurines, and this. This neat box that caught my eye during the last few minutes of the auction. People were fighting over some jewelry crap, so of course I had to get close enough to see what was going on. But as I did, I saw this sad little box. The tag said "Old Carnival Toy" and there was only one bid placed for $3. I've seen them before, not sure where, but I like them. So I bid $5. And won. Here's an crummy video I took so you can see. You simply turn the box over a few times and set it down. The sand inside creates the motion you see. It sits on my work desk, an...

My Award Goes To......

Image
In an attempt to find something different to do in BlogLand, I'm going to make up my own version of something I saw a while back. I'm going to give out awards. Today is my first award 'ceremony', and I'd like to bestow the Stylish Blogger Award to my friend Allison over at Lipgloss Lounge . Allison, please accept my silly award, tell the readers a thing or two about your style do/don'ts, and pass it along to another fashionable friend. Allison is a gal after my own heart. Not only is she a fashionista that keeps up on today's trends, but she does it without overpaying for beauty. A combination I love and admire. Shoes, bags, manicures, hair accessories, and cute skirts are just some of the many things you can learn about from Allison.  So head on over to find out what your personal style is lacking!
